AWS to retire Amazon Q Developer, introduces new agentic coding platform

AWS announced end of support for Amazon Q Developer by April 2027, urging users to transition to a new agentic development environment called Kiro with advanced workflow automation features.

AWS has announced it will end support for Amazon Q Developer, its AI coding assistant, by April 30, 2027, giving users a one year transition window. New user signups will stop from May 15, 2026, and some model changes will begin soon after, signaling a phased shutdown.

The company is introducing Kiro, a new agentic development environment designed for spec driven workflows with features like structured specifications, automated hooks, and custom subagents.

AWS is encouraging developers to migrate to Kiro, reflecting a shift toward more autonomous, context aware coding systems.
