Pinecone has unveiled Nexus, a new AI knowledge engine designed to replace traditional retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) workflows for agentic AI systems. Instead of retrieving raw document chunks during inference, Nexus compiles enterprise data into structured, task-specific knowledge artifacts before agents begin execution.
The company says this architecture reduces token consumption, improves task completion rates, and delivers more deterministic results for enterprise AI applications. Pinecone also introduced KnowQL, a declarative query language that allows agents to define output structures, confidence levels, and latency requirements.
The launch reflects a broader industry shift toward context engineering and compile-time reasoning for scalable, production-ready AI agents.
