OpenAI has introduced Astra for Law, a legal-focused configuration of GPT-6 Astra designed for law firms and legal technology companies.
It combines the frontier model with specialized legal analysis instructions and a search index covering U.S. case law, statutes, regulations, court rules and administrative decisions.
On Vals AI’s Legal Research Bench, Astra for Law passed the overall correctness check on 54% of questions, compared with 38.7% for GPT-6 Astra using web search alone. Initial access is available to selected law firms through Trusted Access in ChatGPT and Codex, with API availability planned. OpenAI also launched 26 partner-built legal plugins.
