Kiro expands model choice with GPT-5.6 for agentic software development

Kiro has expanded its AI model lineup with GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna, giving developers more options to balance coding intelligence, speed, and cost across agentic development workflows.

Kiro is expanding its agentic development platform with GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna across its IDE, CLI, and Web experiences. The three models give developers different price-performance options for spec-driven development, multi-step coding, refactoring, terminal work, and high-frequency tasks.

Kiro grounds models in requirements, technical designs, codebase context, and team standards, helping agents work toward defined implementation goals. In joint testing, GPT-5.6 Terra completed successful Terminal-Bench 2.1 tasks in Kiro at roughly 82% lower cost.

Kiro also supports model selection by workload, with Sol targeting complex development, Terra balancing capability and cost, and Luna prioritizing throughput
